A serious bit for the carriage horse that was intended for ultimate control of the unruly or headstrong animal. The twisted metal mouthpiece was meant to provide friction and leverage to the handler's reins, something not to be ignored! Although severe, the more aggressive bits only had one twisted metal piece thus making it more painful on the corner of the horse's mouth.

This bit is made of iron and nicely pocked and rusted, large loose ring designed to keep the bit from slipping through the horse’s mouth, hand-forged details show the black smith's skill. A lovely piece for your Antique Equestrian collection or home decor. Circa 1900s, bit measures 12 1/2 inches total length with a 5 1/2 inch mouthpiece and 3 inch rings.
