Description

A traditional bit for the driving or riding horse at the turn of the century, with the large rings intended to keep the bit from slipping through the horse’s mouth when the rider or driver needed to turn the horse's head. Simple jointed snaffle bit design with sweet iron, which is iron mixed with copper to help the horse salivate and therefore have a "softer" mouth. Nicely pocked with light rust to show the age, hand-forged details show the blacksmith' skill.

A great piece to add to your collection or use as a nice decorative piece such as a towel holder or pillow accent. Circa 1900s, bit measures 14 inches total length with a 5 ½ inch mouthpiece and 4 inch rings.
