The heavier weight of this riding crop is a testament to the leverage needed when riding at break-neck top speed across a brush/jump course – certainly not for the faint hearted!

Beautifully crafted in laced and stitched brown leather with a long flapper end, the motivation is obvious with stinging clarity! These crops or bats were made with antler, wood or composite fiber centers to assure they did not break- it is hard to tell for sure with this one but due to the weight I would guess antler or composite fiber.

Contrast white stitching adds elegance, woven knob end + woven keepers, raised stripe shaft with long leather flapper end. The flapper has been repaired some time in its history and is somewhat delicate where it attaches to the shaft of the crop. Circa 1900s, measures 18 ½ L (including leather lash). ½ W and 2 ¼ inches around (shaft). Knob top measures 4 ¼ inches around.

How this defines the Urban Equestrian: Collecting memorabilia that certainly has stories to tell is a major part of this lifestyle; items that define a period or specific pursuit with historical significance are a treasure to be had.
