This fabulous dress defines women’s wear in the 1940s; comfortable, versatile and more supportive of a woman’s growing active lifestyle.

Most shirtwaist dresses had matching belts to create the nipped waist and smooth silhouette, and the thicker fabric and over-sized buttons on this dress assure it was meant for evening entertaining. Fabric is most likely rayon in a shimmering black color, double-breasted look with large round button front, string belt loops, elbow sleeves with notched cuffs, shoulder pads, unlined, high notched collar, front slit pockets, interior snap closures front, below knee cut, tapered waist with a fuller skirt, full button opening (not slip on).

Good condition with the following notes: Missing an interior snap at waist and looks like one of the snaps was moved; Midway down left side of skirt there is some damage – small holes that look like it may have been caught on something (see picture). No label, fits like a size Med, 1940s. The following measurements were made with thegarment lying FLAT and recorded in inches, please be sure and DOUBLE the appropriate measurements: Shoulders: 14 ½, chest: 19, waist: 14, hips: 21, length; 49, sleeve: 18.

How this defines the urban equestrian: sleek silhouette with an accented waist creates a tailored look that is coined smart casual; freedom of movement with resilient fabrics; country-chic when worn with tall boots; must be belted for optimum appeal.
